The Magic School Bus – Exploring the human body
Today a group of Pod 1 students went to the Creswick State Forest and visited Slatey Creek with Mr Guest and Tara. Together we took part in fun and healthy outdoor activities such as bush walking, cubby building, tag and teamwork games.
I have 2 questions for each of you who were lucky enough to visit Slatey Creek:
1) What was your favourite part of the day?
2 What was the interesting item that you found in the bush and what are 3 words you wrote to describe it?
Great work on being healthy and active Pod 1 students!
Today Mr Guest and Bridget were lucky enough to meet the kinder kids who will be in pod 1 next year. We explored the school, visited the playground, Mr Grill’s gym, Mr Ross’s woodwork room, Mrs Gibson’s art room and then finished our trip with iPads in the ICT room. Everyone was well behaved and had a great time. We can’t wait to see you in Pod 1 in 2016!

Below is a recount of the farm excursion by Djarkira.
On Friday Pod 1 went on an excursion to the farm. First I saw cows. The cows poo was smelly and gross. Next we saw Kevin the fat pig and the pony with the sharp teeth. Soon we got some bread to feed the ducks. It was fun at the farm. It was awesome!
On Monday Mr Guest’s boys group travelled across to Lake Wendouree to try out our fishing skills. Everybody was fantastic at casting into the lake and although we had lots of fun, unfortunately we weren’t able to catch any fish this time.
1: What was your favorite part of yesterdays excursion?
2: What was the hardest thing about fishing?
3: What type of fish were we trying to catch?
Well done on having a go boys! maybe next time we’ll catch something BIG!
Last Friday all of Pod 1 travelled back in time to Sovereign Hill. Everyone had a great time exploring the mine, panning for gold, bowling and looking at how things were back in the 1850’s.
Boys group, can you tell us about your experience at Sovereign Hill?
This week Mr Guests boys group made healthy coconut and date balls. Together we measured the ingredients and then followed the steps to make our delicious treats.
Follow the instructions below to create your own.
2 cups of pitted dates
1 cup of shredded coconut
1 tablespoon of cocoa powder
1. Wash your hands.
2. Place the dates, coconut and cocoa powder into a food processor or blender.
3. Carefully mix the ingredients on high speed until they are crushed up into small pieces.
4. Roll the mixed ingredients into small balls and place on a plate.
What did you think about our coconut and date balls? They are healthy and delicious!
What was your favourite part of making them?
Mr Guest’s boys group have been working on procedural writing. The boys found the ingredients needed to create pancakes from scratch. They then wrote down the step by step instructions on how to make DELICIOUS pancakes. We were then lucky enough to share Nat’s kitchen and followed our instructions to create our lunch which we topped off with maple syrup, honey and jam! The boys all worked extremely well in the kitchen measuring ingredients and reading the instructions.
Well done boys!
What was your favorite part about creating and eating the pancakes boys?
Each week a group of 4 lucky Pod 1 Boys get together and take part in team building, leadership and other fun activities whilst also working on their writing, reading and improving their behaviour.
