Today in our morning discovery play session two new authors began to create a book about play at Yuille Park CC.
Rebecca and Charli started with creating a story map about the different play centres in the POD and brainstormed words that they might write about in each area. They then went and took some pictures of children playing in the Pod and the writing began.
They used ‘My Story’ which is a great app that lets you write stories, draw pictures, add sound and be creative by adding in all sorts of stickers. They haven’t finished their books yet but we thought we would share a ‘sneak preview’ of what a book looks like as it is coming together.
My Story is a great app for creative young authors
Today I recieved a letter from one of our students (Jamie) asking if I could add an app to his iPad.
Jamie uses his iPad each day to plan out his learning and to record what he learns.
Plants vs Zombies is a game that lets you have a pet and you need to learn to look after your pets by planting plants that repel the zombies.
Wikipedia explains the game like this: In Plants vs. Zombies, players place different types of plants and fungi, each with their own unique offensive or defensive capabilities, around a house in order to stop a horde of zombies from eating the brains of the residents. The playing field is divided into a number of horizontal lanes, and with rare exceptions, a zombie will only move towards the player’s house along one lane (the main exception is if it has taken a bite out of a garlic). Most plants can only attack or defend against zombies in the lane they are planted in.
I’m looking forward to more letters from Jamie to find out how his pets are going.
We are POD 1 at Yuille Park Community College in Wendouree, Victoria. Our learning community is made up of Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students. We have lovely spaces to learn, great equipment (we even had iPads) and some pretty cool teachers and ES staff who help us learn.
This week we have been exploring the camera with the iPads and have been taking photos in maths of the 2 digit number we modelled. We also had a go at using the video camera to record our first movies. Some of them were a bit bumpy but we are pretty sure we can hold the camera still next time.
We are also learning about farms. We started this week by brainstorming and making a mindmap and wordle of the things we already know about farms. They look great. At the end of our farm unit we are going to do them again so we can see how much we have learnt.
Have you ever thought about your favourite farm animal? I wonder what it would be.
Click in the box below and type in your favourite farm animal. I wonder which one will be the most popular?
