Virtually connecting with the State Library of NSW

Today some of our students at YPCC participated in a Video Conference with the State Library of NSW. Today’s conference was about drawing and using water colours and the focus was on the art works created by John Lewin. John Lewin was born in England and travelled to Australia in 1800. He was the first ‘free’ professional artist in Australia. He painted many of Australia’s native animals and countryside.
Today the image used by the artist is shown below. The artist talked about how artists look for shapes in what they want to draw and how this can help you to create realistic pictures.

John Lewin’s painting titled “Fish catch at Dawes Point, Sydney Harbour”

Check out the images below of the kids working whilst the video conference was on and some of the art works they produced.

Virtually Visiting Hyde Park with POD 2

Today the students in POD 2 participated in a virtual conference about the convicts who lived and worked in Hyde Park in 1788.
This was a great experience and a fun way to learn about the history of Australia.

Attending the conference with us were the students from Captains Flat Public School in NSW. We worked out that it would take about 8 or 9 hours to drive to Captains Flat from Wendouree, but we were there in an instant with VC.

Please check out our sliderocket to see some of what we did today.
